A habitual Cheyenne criminal faces two life sentences for allegedly strangling a family member and threatening them with a drawn deadly weapon.
According to the booking sheet, police arrested 38-year-old Kasey Adam Worley at a redacted location in Cheyenne at 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, two days after the alleged crimes were committed.
Police claim Worley was uncooperative and had to be tased.
Worley was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and appeared in Laramie County Circuit Court on Monday, Aug. 11, in front of Judge TJ Forwood on two felonies, including strangulation a household member – applying pressure on the throat or neck and aggravated assault and battery – threatens to use a drawn deadly weapon, as well as three misdemeanors, including domestic battery – second offense, violation of a protection order, and interference with a peace officer.
Habitual Criminal Enhancement
Worley’s previous convictions for felony theft on October 19, 2018, and burglary and forgery on September 27, 2019, resulted in an enhanced sentence of life in prison.
Worley was appointed as a public defender by Forwood, who requested a bond recommendation from the state.
“Mr. Worley recently received an imposed sentence for a probation violation for a similar group of domestic battery offenses,” the state’s office stated. “On Aug. 1, he was released three days early because he told this court he was going to get treatment and instead … he committed these new offenses with the same victim.”
The state also cited Worley’s battery history from 2006, domestic batteries from 2007, probation violations, and failure to appear from 2018.
“For those reasons the state believes that a cash bond is appropriate and would request $75,000 cash,” according to the statement.
Bond Set at $100K Cash
Forwood set Worley’s bond at $100,000 cash.
His next court appearance will be a preliminary hearing on Thursday, August 21 at 3:30 p.m.
Remember that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
