The second Social Security payment for the month of August will be distributed to recipients this week; however, those who were previously overpaid by the Social Security Administration may receive smaller benefit checks.
This is because the agency intends to begin withholding 50% of benefits from those who have been overpaid but have yet to make repayments.
According to a February 2025 report by the SSA’s Office of the Inspector General, the agency overpaid $13.6 billion in Social Security benefits between fiscal years 2020 and 2023, but the SSA has not stated how many people were overpaid.

Who gets their Social Security payment this week?
Beneficiaries who were born on the 11th through the 20th date of their birth month are set to receive their monthly Social Security benefit on Wednesday, Aug. 20, according to the SSA’s payment calendar.
When are Social Security payments sent?
Social Security benefits, which are primarily paid to the elderly and retired, are typically paid on Wednesdays.
If a recipient’s birthdate falls between the first and tenth of the month, they will receive payments on the second Wednesday of the payment month, according to the SSA calendar.
According to the SSA payment calendar, recipients born between the 11th and 20th of the month are paid on the third Wednesday, while those born after the 20th receive payments on the fourth Wednesday.

The Social Security Administration’s yearly benefit payment schedules for 2025 and 2026 are available online, allowing you to use the calendar for budgeting.
Social Security benefits for the remainder of the month will be sent out according to the following schedule:
Wednesday, Aug. 20: Birth dates between the 11th and 20th of the month.
Wednesday, Aug. 27: Birth dates between the 21st and 31st of the month.
SSI payment schedule for August, rest of 2025 and into 2026
Supplemental Security Income recipients should have received their payments on the first business day of the month, which was Friday, August 1.
