MAYSVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky State Police (KSP) are investigating a fatal Friday night crash in Mason County.
Around 7:45 p.m. on August 22, deputies from the Mason County Sheriff’s Office contacted troopers at KSP Post 8 in Morehead for assistance in investigating a fatal crash near the 4000 block of KY-10.
An initial investigation revealed that Joshua Childers, Elizabeth Appleman, and Jimmy Keller, all of Germantown, Kentucky, were driving a black Chevrolet Trailblazer when they allegedly collided with a disabled red Chevrolet Corvette on the road.
According to state police, the Corvette’s driver, 62-year-old Brian Heron of Maysville, was attempting to get his disabled car off the road when he was allegedly hit by Childer’s Trailblazer, which then collided with a black Toyota Camry driven by Eden Ballard of Brooksville.
According to authorities, the Mason County coroner declared Heron dead at the scene. Appleman was flown to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Mason County emergency personnel transported Childers, Keller, and Ballard to Meadowview Hospital, where they are in stable condition.
An investigation into the deadly crash is still ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
