The Texas Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is an important federal government initiative that provides benefits to low-income individuals and families so they can buy healthy food.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is in charge of administering the program, which helps alleviate food insecurity and promotes nutritional well-being throughout the state.
SNAP participants in Texas receive their benefits monthly on the Lone Star Card, an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card that functions similarly to a debit card. This card is valid for purchases of eligible food at most grocery stores, supermarkets, and farmers markets.
