Tornado Map Puts Missouri in the Danger Zone for June

Historically, Missouri’s worst months for tornadoes have been March, April, and May. However, recent data and a new tornado risk map suggest June should now be added to that list as the state faces a growing threat of twisters.

Why Is Missouri at Greater Risk in June?

A new map shared by Live Storm Chasers shows that traditional tornado activity has shifted eastward, placing Missouri at the center of the greatest tornado risk area for June. This shift has raised concern among weather watchers and residents alike.

Many remember the devastating June 1 tornado that struck Springfield over 15 years ago, marking June as a dangerous month in Missouri’s weather history.

How Many Tornadoes Does Missouri Usually See in June?

While May is typically the peak tornado month, averaging about 12 tornadoes, June normally sees around six tornadoes on average in Missouri.

Tornado Records and 2025 Outlook

St. Charles County’s tornado statistics reveal that Missouri’s most active tornado year was 2006, with 102 tornadoes statewide.

As of the end of May 2025, Missouri has already recorded 89 tornadoes—putting the state on pace to potentially break the all-time record this year.

If the new tornado risk map for June 2025 is accurate, Missouri may surpass its historic tornado count before July even arrives.

With tornado activity shifting and the record-breaking numbers in 2025, Missouri residents should remain vigilant this June. Preparing for severe weather and staying informed will be critical as the state faces a higher risk of tornadoes this month.
