A woman who claimed she was only trying to calm a 4-year-old boy at a Florida airport has been charged with attempting to take the boy from his mother.

Alvina Agba, 23, was arrested on Tuesday after the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office reported she attempted to flee with another woman’s child. According to an arrest report obtained by local CBS affiliate WFOR, Agba, who police say is from England, noticed the mother and son standing at a checkout counter at Miami International Airport on Tuesday morning.

Police said the boy was crying and Agba offered to help him calm down. The boy’s mother let Agba hold her son.

However, Agba allegedly walked away from the line with the boy still in her arms.

According to the police report, the boy’s mother followed Agba and demanded her son’s return. Agba reportedly refused, telling the mother, “No, this is my child.”

According to Fox News Digital, Agba then sat on the floor, wrapping her arms and legs around the boy to keep him still. While on the floor, Agba allegedly pushed the boy’s mother away.

When witnesses finally retrieved the boy from Agba, she allegedly attempted to yank him back.

According to police, a witness at the scene, Naylet Montano, grabbed the boy from Agba and fled behind a counter. Agba allegedly yelled at her, “Give back her child.” Montano told WFOR, “The woman on the ground stood up and attempted to take the boy away from me.

I would not let her. I dashed behind the counter and crouched down to shield the boy. She attempted to get under the counter. But when the police arrived, she fled.

According to the arrest report, three men stood between Montano and Agba to prevent him from taking the boy.

Sheriff’s deputies apprehended Agba at an airport checkpoint. According to police, when questioned, Agba claimed that she was taking the boy to a rainbow-themed wall to calm him down.

After telling police that she “didn’t remember” what happened after the boy’s mother ordered her to return her child, she allegedly claimed that “[s]he only did it because God told her to do it.”

Agba was charged with interference with custody, a felony, and two misdemeanor counts of battery. She is currently being held in Miami-Dade County Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Agba was scheduled to appear before a judge later on Tuesday, according to WFOR.
