A Wisconsin man allegedly believed a relative was having an affair with his wife and went to confront him about it, bringing a gun with him.
Police in Sheboygan arrested 65-year-old Pao Lee on Friday after receiving reports of a shooting around 10:00 a.m. According to a criminal complaint obtained by local Fox affiliate WITI, police arrived to find Lee “being held down by individuals” at the scene, with a witness reporting that a 9 mm handgun was thrown away near a tree.
When police discovered the alleged victim, he stated that Lee, to whom he is related, allegedly held a gun to his face after barging into his workplace and asking him, “[Y]ou want to die today?”
According to the criminal complaint, the man was injured during the altercation with Lee, and his 2-year-old granddaughter was shot in the chest. WITI stated that she is expected to survive.
The man told police that while he was in the business’s kitchen getting milk for his granddaughter’s cereal, Lee allegedly appeared and the two men had a casual conversation.
Lee allegedly pulled out a gun during the conversation, which turned violent. The alleged victim stated to police that “he immediately went to grab the gun to push it up in the air and just remembered several shots going off.”
According to police, the man had no memory of what happened to the little girl during the alleged scuffle. According to the complaint, another person became involved and, along with the victim, took Lee’s gun and “threw it against a tree” before asking someone to call 911.
When police interviewed Lee, he stated that he believed the man he confronted was sending sexual texts to his wife, which he discovered while going through her phone.
According to the complaint, “Lee said he decided he wanted to kill [the victim] and then kill himself.” He stated that he had no intention of harming the little girl and “did not know” that he had shot her.
Police also interviewed Lee’s wife, who denied having an affair with either the alleged victim or anyone else. She told police that she and her husband had a fight the week before the alleged shooting, and he accused her of having a relationship with the victim.
Lee was charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree reckless injury and taken to the Sheboygan County Jail. He is being held under a $2 million cash bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 15, with a preliminary hearing on September 17.
