A 22-year-old man in Michigan is accused of shooting the man whose ex-girlfriend called for help after noticing him following her home from the movies.
Dominic Michael McBride was arrested over the weekend and charged with one count each of assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to cause great bodily harm less than murder, and assault with a dangerous weapon, authorities said.
According to a Sumpter Township Police Department news release, officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 46000 block of Reed Street around 11 p.m. Sunday. The residence is located approximately 30 miles southwest of Detroit.
When first responders arrived, they discovered a 40-year-old man with two gunshot wounds, one to the left side of his upper chest and another that grazed his right cheek.
Huron Valley Ambulance transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. Police have not released the victim’s name, but he has been identified as the Reed Street resident.
According to investigators, the incident occurred earlier that evening at the Emagine Theater on the 39000 block of Ford Road in Canton Township, Michigan. The shooting occurred just under 20 miles from the theater.
McBride allegedly spotted and approached his ex-girlfriend, who was in the theater with another man, neither of whom was identified in the release. McBride reportedly started following his ex-girlfriend and the other man as they drove away from the theater.
“The suspect followed the two approximately 18 miles to the residence on Reed Street, at which point the victim, whom the couple had called to notify him of what was occurring, exited the residence, telling the suspect to leave,” according to the announcement. “After a brief encounter, the suspect allegedly produced a handgun while seated in his vehicle and shot the victim, who was standing in his yard.”
Following the shooting, McBride drove to a nearby location and waited for officers to arrive. He was then taken into custody. Police said the handgun believed to have been used in the shooting had been recovered.
McBride appeared in court for his arraignment, and Judge Teresa Arlaina Patton set his bond at $500,000. He is scheduled to appear in court again for a probable cause hearing on September 24, according to court records.
