On Sunday, a crash outside of South Sioux City killed one person and hospitalized three others.
According to the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at 8:30 p.m. on Highway 110 between 155th and 160th Streets.
According to officials, the two vehicles involved in the crash, a GMC Sierra and a Honda Odyssey, were traveling opposite directions on Highway 110. One of the vehicles crossed the center line, resulting in a head-on collision.
Officials did not say which vehicle crossed the centerline. Weather conditions on Sunday night are thought to have contributed to the crash.
According to the release, the driver of one vehicle, a man from Wakefield, was taken to the hospital with his wife and child.
The driver is currently in stable condition, and the child has been released from the hospital; however, the driver’s wife, Eva Pena, 44, died as a result of her injuries.
According to officials, the lone driver of the other vehicle, a man from Sergeant Bluff, was also hospitalized with serious injuries.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol are still investigating the crash, and no more information is expected to be released at this time.
