ABERDEEN, SD — Toby Doeden, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, claims he was threatened while attending a football game in Aberdeen with his family Saturday night.
In reference to last week’s assassination of Conservative political activist Charlie Kirk, he claims the suspect approached him from behind and said, “We got Kirk – you’re next”.
Doeden claims that the suspect then repeated the threat to his daughter, saying, “Your father is next.”
Doeden says he will not back down from his candidacy, describing himself as more determined than ever to do what is right for the state and the country. He asserts: “with God by my side, I will protect my family and do what is right.”
Aberdeen police arrested a suspect on a charge of simple assault. More information may be released today.
