Gray applauds Goshen County Board of County Commissioners' decision to protect precinct voting while rejecting vote center ideas

CHEYENNE – On Tuesday, the Goshen County Board of County Commissioners rejected a proposal to transition from precinct voting to vote centers.

Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray had previously expressed his opposition to the vote center proposals at the Goshen County commissioners’ meeting on August 19 and in a letter dated September 8.

“I am very pleased with the Goshen County Board of County Commissioners’ decision to reject these vote center proposals,” Gray stated in a news release issued by his office. “Vote centers frequently make it more difficult for rural voters to vote in person on election day by increasing the distance that qualified electors must travel to the polling places.

“President Donald Trump has emphasized the security of in-person voting. The bottom line is that precinct polling places meet higher accessibility, safety, and security standards than vote centers, and I am grateful that the Goshen County Board of County Commissioners heard and rejected these proposals.”
