The City of Cheyenne acquires land for a new grocery store

The City of Cheyenne recently annexed 17 acres for a new grocery store, according to the Cheyenne City Council President.

Dr. Mark Rinne made the comments in a new release from the “Council Chronicle” on Friday. That release replaced Mayor Patrick Collins’ usual “Mayoral Minute” column.

Annexed Property North And West Of Sam’s Club

That column is normally released on Friday morning.

In the column, Rinne wrote the following: ”Recently, the City annexed approximately 17 acres to the north and west of Sam’s Club. This development action is called the Winco Development and is for a Winco Grocery. I knew nothing about Winco so I did a little research. They are headquartered in Boise and they have approximately 138 locations around the United States. Most of their locations are in the West. However, they have been moving into Texas and Oklahoma and now, Wyoming. Winco is a no-frills, warehouse style store and they have a large selection of bulk foods. One thing that I found interesting is that they do not accept credit cards.”

According to Wikipedia, Winco is primarily employee-owned and has bulk food sections. It keeps prices low by buying directly from farmers and manufacturers.

It’s a no-frills store, which means it doesn’t provide bagging services or accept credit cards. Wikipedia says it accepts debit cards.

Rinne did not specify when the Cheyenne store would open. A call to Winco’s corporate office seeking additional information was not immediately returned.
