Casper, Wyo. – At 1:53 p.m. on September 21, Casper/Natrona County’s public safety communications center received a 911 call for a water rescue at Alcova Reservoir for a sinking boat with two adults and one child on board.
Natrona County Fire District firefighters and Sheriff’s Office deputies responded. AirMethods Wyoming Life Flight 1 and Banner Health Ambulance both responded to the scene.
Upon arrival in Alcova, NCFD and NCSO crews boarded the NCSO patrol boat and proceeded to the area between Black Beach and Cottonwood Beach, where the watercraft was located with LF1 circling overhead. The Banner Health ambulance was stationed at the dock during the rescue.
When responders arrived at the boat, they discovered it half submerged in the water, with three victims still aboard and wearing life jackets.
Responders rescued the three victims by assisting them onto the NCSO boat and towing the submerged boat back to shore. The incident resulted in no reported injuries.
Natrona County First Responders would like to remind everyone that as the boating season ends in Wyoming, everyone should continue to follow boating safety guidelines.
Always wear an approved and properly fitted floatation device, have a way to call for help (air horn, flag or whistle for nearby assistance, or satellite-enabled devices if cell phone service is unavailable), and perform pre-boating checks on your watercraft before entering the water.
