CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A Cheyenne woman is facing drug charges for fleeing a traffic stop on September 2, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Melinda Sandoval, 38, was arrested and charged with interference with a peace officer without injury and possession of a controlled substance for the third or subsequent time.
She is presumed innocent unless she pleads or is found guilty.
The incident began at 3:16 p.m. on September 2 when a Cheyenne police officer pulled over a car near the intersection of Oxford Drive and Durham Road because the driver, Genevieve Phillips, was known to have an active felony warrant.
As the car came to a stop, Sandoval, a passenger in the back seat, reportedly got out and refused to return to the vehicle. She then fled the scene, but was quickly apprehended and arrested.
Following her arrest, a search of her jacket turned up a suspected fentanyl pipe. Sandoval informed medical staff at the Laramie County Detention Center that she had other items concealed.
She then extracted a methamphetamine pipe and two additional suspected fentanyl pipes from within herself.
According to the affidavit, Sandoval was unable to retrieve the final item and was transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, where medical personnel removed a plastic bag containing approximately 2.15 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
According to court records, Sandoval had several prior convictions for possession of controlled substances.
