A Cold Front Brings Rain And Lower Temperatures To Cheyenne, With The Possibility Of Snow In The Mountains

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A cold front has abruptly ended Cheyenne’s warmer weather, with a Pacific storm system bringing chilly rain and mountain snow to the area today.

A Freeze Watch has also been issued for certain areas of the region, as temperatures are expected to drop.

The National Weather Service in Cheyenne predicts widespread rain, with some areas receiving up to nine-tenths of an inch.

Snow is expected above 8,500 feet, and the Interstate 80 summit may receive its first snowflakes of the season, with up to 2 inches of slushy accumulation on grassy surfaces.

Meteorologists have issued a Freeze Watch for the high valleys west of the Laramie Range, effective tonight through early Wednesday morning. Overnight lows in these areas could drop as low as 29 degrees, with a solid frost expected.

A high-pressure system is expected to move into the region on Wednesday, causing the weather to gradually warm. Regional highs will return to the 60s and 70s by Wednesday, with temperatures reaching the mid-70s by Thursday. Dry and gusty conditions are expected to last through the weekend.
