Man Shot Three Times in Grand Rapids; Police Seek Answers

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Police are investigating a Saturday morning shooting that left a 28-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting happened around 7:46 a.m. in the 300 block of Cedar Street NE. According to Lt. Brad Bush of the Grand Rapids Police Department, the victim was shot three times — twice in one leg and once in the wrist.

While the man did speak with officers, Lt. Bush noted that his account of what happened doesn’t seem to add up.

“He gave us a statement, but we don’t believe he’s being completely honest,” Bush said.

At first, the man claimed he had just stepped onto his porch when he heard a loud bang and realized he’d been shot. Later, at the hospital, he changed his story, saying he had walked out to the street corner when he suddenly felt he’d been hit.

“He has no description of a suspect and no idea why anyone would target him,” Bush said, adding that police believe this to be an isolated incident.

Thankfully, the man’s injuries are not life-threatening, and he’s reported to be in stable condition.

The case is still under investigation and will be assigned to a detective. However, progress may be slow due to limited information.

“Without cooperation from the victim, video footage, or witness statements, there’s only so much we can do at this point,” Bush explained.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Grand Rapids Police Department’s non-emergency line at 616-456-3400 and ask to speak with a detective.
