A pretrial conference for a Sheridan woman accused of many felonies was held in district court

A Sheridan woman charged with multiple felonies will face trial next month in Fourth Judicial District Court. Ron Richter from Sheridan Media has the details.

Treva Adams pleaded not guilty to felony endangering children for knowingly possessing methamphetamine with a child present; felony possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine; felony possession of a controlled substance – cocaine; and misdemeanor possession or use of a firearm for possessing a firearm with a previous nonviolent felony conviction. Adams was arrested and charged with these crimes in January.

At a pretrial conference Tuesday in District Court, the Court granted Deputy Sheridan County and Prosecuting Attorney Christopher LaRosa’s request to have a witness from the State Crime Lab testify by video at trial after Adams made no objections.

A three-day jury trial is still scheduled for July 14, unless Adams and the State reach a plea agreement. If convicted on all counts, Adams could face over 17 years in prison and a fine of more than $25,000.

According to court documents, Adams’ arrest resulted from a report to the Sheridan Police Department that he was in possession of methamphetamine and a firearm.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Adams’ residence, yielding the drugs and the firearm.

A 50-year-old Sheridan man changed his plea to a drug-related charge on Tuesday in Fourth Judicial District Court. Vernon Woods pleaded guilty to felony delivery of a controlled substance – hydrocodone, in accordance with a plea agreement reached with the State.

The plea agreement calls for a prison sentence of two to five years, suspended in favor of three years of supervised probation. The plea agreement is non-binding, which means the Court can reject it at sentencing and the defendant cannot withdraw his guilty plea.

The Sheridan Police Department arrested Woods for the crime after conducting a traffic stop on North Main Street on February 5.

District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered the Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole to conduct a presentence investigation and scheduled the sentencing for August 21 at 9 a.m. Woods’ bond was renewed on the same terms and conditions that were previously established in Circuit Court.
