An 18-year-old man will face prison time for felony property destruction and defacement. Ron Richter from Sheridan Media has the details.
Kolby Petersen, 18, had his sentencing hearing Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan. Petersen was arrested in December 2024 for causing damage to a vehicle’s windshield, breaking two side windows, and slashing two tires.
At Thursday’s hearing, District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement reached between the State and the defendant and sentenced Petersen to 2 to 4 years in prison with the recommendation that he participate in the Youthful Offender Treatment Program at the State Penitentiary in Rawlins.
If Petersen successfully completes the six to nine-month program, he may petition the Court to have the remainder of his sentence suspended and placed on three years’ supervised probation.
Judge Phillips ordered Petersen to pay the victim $1,441 in restitution plus $325 in court costs and assessments.
Petersen was given 187 days credit for time served in presentence confinement. He was remanded to the Sheridan County Detention Center, pending transfer to the State Penitentiary.

Julian Patino, 22, had his sentencing hearing Thursday in Fourth Judicial District Court in Sheridan.
District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted Patino’s plea agreement with the State and sentenced him to 2 to 3 years in prison, suspended in exchange for three years of supervised probation on the charge of accessory after the fact.
Patino was ordered to pay $1,181 in restitution along with three other co-defendants in the case. Judge Phillips also imposed court costs and assessments totaling $325, as well as public defender fees of $250.
Patino was sentenced for his role in the Big Horn Y’s burglary on June 17, 2024, when three co-defendants broke into the establishment and stole various types of alcohol.
Patino drove the vehicle but did not enter the establishment with the other defendants. Snapchat messages were critical in the Sheridan County Sheriff’s Office investigation and the subsequent arrests of Patino and three co-defendants in July 2024.
