Wilkes-Barre City Mayor George Brown and Fire Chief Jay Delaney will host a special ceremony this Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Fire Headquarters, located at 20-22 E. Ross Street, to celebrate National EMS Week.
This year marks the 51st anniversary of National EMS Week, with the theme: “We Care. For Everyone.” It’s also a major milestone for the Wilkes-Barre Fire Department’s Emergency Medical Service, which is celebrating its 50th year since its founding on January 1, 1975.
During the event, Mayor Brown will issue a formal proclamation to recognize both National EMS Week and the EMS division’s 50 years of dedicated service. Chief Delaney will also reflect on the department’s history, share its progress over the decades, and discuss future goals for Wilkes-Barre’s EMS team.
Attendees can expect to see the department’s full ambulance fleet on display. The event will also feature the official unveiling of a special 50th Anniversary WBFD EMS T-shirt. Proceeds from the shirt sales will benefit two local charities, which will be revealed during the ceremony.
