CHEYENNE — Wyoming Senate President Bo Biteman and House Speaker Chip Neiman issued the following statement regarding the shooting of Minnesota legislators:
“As President of the Wyoming State Senate and Speaker of the Wyoming State House, we are deeply saddened and troubled by the tragic and senseless shooting of Minnesota State Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, who were tragically killed, and State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, who were wounded in targeted, politically motivated acts of violence in Brooklyn Park and Champlin, Minnesota, on June 14, 2025.”
“On behalf of the Wyoming Legislature, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Rep. Hortman and Sen. Hoffman’s families, friends, and colleagues, as well as the entire Minnesota community, during this difficult time of grief and recovery.
“This heinous act of violence against dedicated public servants cuts to the heart of our democratic values. It serves as a stark reminder of the critical need to promote civility, reject division, and uphold the principles of respect and dialogue in our society.
We stand in unwavering solidarity with the people of Minnesota and applaud law enforcement’s swift actions in bringing those responsible to justice.
“As leaders, we must recommit to promoting peace, understanding, and unity in our states and nation. The Wyoming Legislature recognizes the contributions of Rep. Hortman and Sen. Hoffman, who demonstrated a commitment to their constituents and communities.
We will continue to support efforts to ensure the safety of all those who serve the public and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
“May we come together in this moment of sorrow to reflect on the values that unite us and to work toward a future where such acts of political violence have no place in America.”
