A man found shot inside a vehicle in south Minneapolis on Thursday night has died from his injuries, police confirmed.
The incident occurred just before 8:20 p.m. on May 15, when the victim’s wife flagged down paramedics near Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Paramedics discovered the man inside a nearby car suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was rushed to Hennepin Healthcare and admitted in critical condition.
Police later found the shooting scene on the 2700 block of Columbus Avenue. Early reports indicate the shooting started after a dispute inside the vehicle, which escalated to gunfire. The shooter fled the scene, while the victim’s wife drove him toward the hospital, where they encountered the ambulance crew.
Forensic teams processed the area, and officers canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage. No arrests have been made yet.
The victim, identified as 48-year-old Michael Ray Adkins from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was pronounced dead Friday morning at 10:01 a.m. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the back.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara expressed his frustration, saying, “It’s incredibly frustrating to see yet another life lost to senseless violence. While we don’t have all the details yet, I assure you our investigators will work tirelessly to bring justice for this victim and his family.”
