Warriors’ Strong Team Depth Secures Top-5 Finish at District 2 Class 3A Boys Track & Field Championships

SCRANTON – Wyoming Area’s Strong Performances Earn Them Fifth-Place Tie at District Track Meet

Nicholas Kondrosky led the charge for Wyoming Area as 11 of its athletes took home medals in the District 2 Class 3A boys track and field championships, held Monday and Tuesday at Scranton’s Memorial Stadium. Thanks to a balanced team effort, the Warriors tied for fifth place out of 18 schools.

Kondrosky was among several standout performers. He earned a silver medal in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 1¼ inches. Despite two fouls, his four legal jumps were all strong enough to beat every competitor except Wilkes-Barre Area’s Da’von Underwood. Kondrosky also placed fifth in the triple jump.

Teammate Chase Krogulski added to the medal count by taking second in the javelin. His throw of 169 feet, 4 inches came on his fifth attempt, boosting him from fifth place to silver.

The Warriors kept pace with the leaders for much of the meet and were tied for first place through 14 of the 18 events. They eventually tied with Crestwood for fifth place, each scoring 58 points.

Wilkes-Barre Area clinched the team title in dramatic fashion, edging Hazleton Area 86-84 in the final event. Wallenpaupack finished third with 64 points, followed by Abington Heights with 62.

Pittston Area finished ninth with a total of 38 points.

For Wyoming Area, Josh Mruk took third in the shot put with a throw of 48-4 and also placed eighth in the javelin. Ben Gravine earned bronze in the discus with a throw of 147-11, while Isaiah Lee claimed third in the triple jump with a mark of 44-7½. They were joined by the 400-meter relay team, which also secured a third-place finish.

Lidge Kellum contributed to the 400 relay team’s success and also placed fifth in the 300 hurdles and eighth in the 110 hurdles.

Other relay team members included Michael Janosky, Jack Gravine, and Gage Speece.

Brady Kearns finished fourth in the 400 meters, and Luke Kopetchny earned sixth place in the triple jump.

Pittston Area saw strong performances as well. Jalen Moore took second in the 400 with a time of 51.20 seconds. He also placed third in the 100-meter prelims with an 11.35 but settled for fifth in the final at 11.41. Moore rounded out his efforts with a sixth-place finish in the 200.

Caden Boettger earned silver in the 800 meters, clocking 2:01.55. Only Hazleton’s Franklin Ritz ran faster, breaking the two-minute mark. Boettger also helped the 3200-meter relay team take third place, running alongside Aiden Egan, Jakob Mead, and Brady Tucker. Tucker also finished fifth in the 800.

In a key moment during the javelin event, Pittston’s Lopresto climbed from sixth to fourth on his fifth throw—right before Krogulski delivered his clutch silver-medal throw for Wyoming Area.
