PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — West Ottawa Public Schools officially broke ground Monday on a brand-new community and aquatic center.
The groundbreaking ceremony took place near the existing pool on the south campus of West Ottawa High School. This exciting new project is being made possible thanks to a voter-approved bond.
The upcoming facility will feature a 50-meter competition pool, a suspended walking track, a cardio center, and other fitness amenities. Superintendent Tim Bearden said it’s one of the district’s largest undertakings to date.
“This is definitely one of our biggest projects,” Bearden explained. “We recently wrapped up a new elementary school, which was major. But building a pool of this size involves a lot of site work and planning. It’s a significant endeavor.”
Bearden added that the need for pool space in the Holland area is growing.
“We have a strong competitive swim program at both the high school and club levels,” he said. “There’s a real demand for more pool time, and this center will help meet that.”
Construction is expected to wrap up by August 2027.
