Wyoming Man Ambushes Ex-Girlfriend Just Minutes After Deputies Leave Her Apartment: Police

A Louisiana man is accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend just moments after sheriff’s deputies cleared her apartment, believing he wasn’t there.

According to the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, 24-year-old Brandon Bell ambushed and killed 22-year-old Kayelyn Ford outside her apartment early Monday morning. CBS affiliate WAFB reported that Ford had called police around that time, fearing Bell was trying to get inside using an old key.

Deputies responded and searched her apartment but found no sign of Bell. They assured Ford that the apartment was safe. She reportedly told them she and a friend planned to leave and stay elsewhere. But unbeknownst to deputies, Bell was hiding in the woods nearby.

As soon as Ford stepped outside, Bell allegedly emerged and shot her, then turned the gun on himself. Ford died at the scene. Bell was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition and, according to officials, is not expected to survive.

Bell had a documented history of domestic violence. In April, he was arrested after reportedly getting into a physical altercation with another woman who asked him to leave her home after he broke a promise. He was later released on a $1,000 bond.

At the time of Ford’s death, Bell was under a protective order that prohibited him from coming within 100 yards of her.

The investigation is ongoing.
