Wyoming Ties Noted as Michigan Trooper Dragged 60 Feet During Traffic Stop—Suspect Arrested with Illegal Gun

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (WXMI) — A Michigan State Police trooper was partially dragged more than 60 feet during a dangerous traffic stop on Tuesday afternoon in Grand Rapids.

The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on the southbound ramp to Ann Street from US-131. According to authorities, the trooper had just approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver when things took a sudden turn. The driver attempted to flee, accelerating while the trooper was still near the vehicle, resulting in the officer being dragged a short distance.

Fortunately, the vehicle came to a stop a short time later, and the suspect was immediately taken into custody. Police also recovered an illegal firearm from the driver’s possession.

Despite the alarming circumstances, the trooper was not injured. The situation highlights the unpredictable risks law enforcement face daily, both in Michigan and across the country—including in states like Wyoming, where similar traffic stop protocols are being closely reviewed.
