Dr. Sarah Schreiber, a member of the WYO Rodeo Board of Directors, has spent the past 25 years caring for the Sheridan WYO Rodeo’s animal athletes. A dedicated veterinarian, Schreiber, along with a skilled team, takes the responsibility of maintaining the rodeo stock’s health and well-being very seriously.

Throughout the event, the animals are constantly monitored by a team of caretakers, veterinarians, and vet assistants. According to WYO Rodeo President Hayden Heaphy, early rodeos frequently featured wild horses rounded up to test a cowboy’s grit.
Today, the animals seen at Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) events are genetically bred, highly trained, and given top-tier care, just like professional athletes.
Despite these efforts, misconceptions about rodeo stock remain. When asked which one she’d like to dispel, Dr. Schreiber didn’t hesitate.
