SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — A rockslide in Spearfish Canyon sent boulders tumbling down a cliffside on Saturday, blocking U.S. Highway 14A near Savoy, South Dakota.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation posted photos of the rocks and debris on Facebook. They claim that due to the unstable cliff side, the road will be closed indefinitely.
Roadblocks were placed on both sides of the road. The southern roadblock is located north of Long Valley Lane. The northern roadblock is located south of Victoria Lane.
According to officials, attempting to circumvent the roadblock with a vehicle or on foot is prohibited and will result in a police encounter. There will be blasting teams and DOT personnel working in the area.
