A 39-year-old man was arrested after police discovered a stolen car and illegal drugs parked behind a laundrette.
Eduardo Angiuana-Gonzalez was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, felony receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, and misdemeanour use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
On Wednesday, around 1:06 a.m., Idaho Falls Police responded to the alley behind D&L Cleaners, located at 1588 West Broadway Street, after receiving a report of a suspicious car.
Officers discovered the car, a 1996 Honda Accord, with the keys in the driver’s seat and a black wallet in the passenger seat.
When officers noticed a door leading into the laundromat just behind the car, they went inside and asked two women if they owned the car.
According to court documents, both women said no, but claimed a man had entered the bathroom from the alley.
The officers knocked on the bathroom door and asked the man if he had parked in the alley. He reportedly stated that he was, but the officers informed him that he could not park there.
The man stated that he understood, and officers waited outside the toilet for him to leave.
While waiting, officers discovered that the Honda they found had been reported stolen, and the suspect was Eduardo Angiuana-Gonzalez.
Officers asked the man’s name after he left the toilet, and he “quietly said Eduardo,” according to court documents.
Officers arrested Angiuana-Gonzalez because he allegedly had three outstanding warrants in Bonneville County. During the search, they discovered a “glass tube with a bulbous end” that they believe is a pipe for smoking methamphetamine.
Officers also discovered residue in the pipe, two torch-style lights, and a credit card with Angiuana-Gonzalez’s name on it.
Officers say they discovered “a small amount of methamphetamine on the driver’s seat of the car” during the search, which later tested presumptively positive.
Angiuana-Gonzalez was transported to the Bonneville County Jail and held on a $15,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear at a preliminary hearing on July 15. If convicted, Angiuana-Gonzalez faces up to 13 years in prison.
Although Angiuana-Gonzalez has been accused of these crimes, this does not necessarily imply that he committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
