A pit bull killed a 1-year-old Ohio girl despite her mother’s efforts to protect her.
Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell told WOIO that the incident happened on July 2, when the child’s mother called 911 to report that her daughter had been killed by her family dog.
According to the sheriff, the baby had bite wounds on his face and throat.
The mother, who suffered defensive wounds as a result of the incident, told police that the dog attacked her as she walked in the door with her daughter.
“It was about as terrible an ordeal as we’d seen in a long time,” Campbell told the outlet.
The child’s father, who was not present during the attack, euthanized the dog, according to WOIO.
A GoFundMe page and an online obituary both identified the child as Blakely Blosser.
“Blakely brought unending joy, light, and love into our lives from the moment she arrived. Her obituary reads: “With her bright eyes, infectious giggle, deep stare, and fearless, courageous spirit, she touched the hearts of everyone she met.”
Blakely enjoyed pushing her wagon, taking tractor rides, playing peek-a-boo, and meowing at Panther the cat through the window, according to the obituary.
“Blakely never wanted to miss a moment, so she fought hard to skip her naps and stay awake for the party. She took her time learning to eat solid food, but that didn’t prevent her from sneaking into Logan’s secret candy stash and grabbing a Reese egg.”
The GoFundMe page created to help Blakely’s family has raised more than $13,000.
