by RIGA, N.Y. — A tragic single-vehicle rollover crash near the Wyoming County border claimed the life of a 44-year-old Batavia man late Monday night.
The accident occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Chili Riga Center Road near Palmer Road in the Town of Riga. Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene and discovered an overturned Ford SUV.
Investigators say the SUV, traveling westbound, veered off the road, striking a utility pole and a large rock before flipping onto its roof. The driver, identified as Jeffrey Day, was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries.
The crash site, located just miles from Wyoming County, highlights the importance of caution on rural roads, especially at night. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
