GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Travelers flying out of Grand Rapids, including those connecting from the state of Wyoming, now have more affordable nonstop options for sunny destinations in the Southeast.
Starting this week, Allegiant Air is launching two new nonstop routes from Gerald R. Ford International Airport: one to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and the other to Jacksonville, Florida.
The Myrtle Beach flights begin Thursday, with Jacksonville service taking off Friday. Both routes will operate twice a week, offering convenient travel for vacationers, families, and golf enthusiasts alike.
To celebrate the launch, Allegiant is offering limited-time one-way fares starting at just $42. Travelers heading to Myrtle Beach must purchase tickets by Saturday and fly before August 17. For Jacksonville, the deadline to book is Sunday, with flights valid through August 18.
“We are delighted to celebrate the inaugural flights to Jacksonville, Florida, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Allegiant Air,” said Tory Richardson, President and CEO of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority. “Whether it’s a quick getaway or a family trip, we’re thankful to Allegiant for bringing these exciting routes to West Michigan.”
These additions mark the first-ever nonstop flights from Ford Airport to both Myrtle Beach and Jacksonville, expanding the airport’s already growing list of nearly 40 direct destinations. For Wyoming travelers willing to connect through Grand Rapids, these routes provide an easy, affordable path to the coast.
The new flights also come as the airport embarks on its $600 million “Elevate” expansion project, which includes relocating the air traffic control tower, building a new parking garage, enhancing terminals, and adding a consolidated car rental facility. The airport also plans to install a federal inspection station—paving the way for future international flights, such as a potential nonstop to Cancun.
In 2024, Ford Airport hit a record 4.17 million passengers. Recent upgrades include an expanded Concourse A, a sensory room, an indoor animal relief area, and upgraded food and beverage options—making it an increasingly attractive hub for both local and out-of-state travelers, including those from Wyoming seeking convenient and cost-effective travel solutions.
