After being allegedly accused by other mothers when her two-year-old threw sand at the playground, an Ohio mother calls the police

A seemingly innocuous incident at an Ohio playground prompted police intervention between two arguing mothers.

According to a news release issued on Monday, July 14, the Bay Village Police Department reported that officers were called to the Play-in-Bay playground on July 7 at around 2:40 p.m., local time.

Police said a mother called to report that her 2-year-old threw sand into the air, which blew into another child’s face.

The caller was speaking with her child when two other mothers allegedly “accosted” her about what happened with the sand, and the caller felt “insulted” by the other mothers’ comments, according to police.

The two other mothers responded by telling the caller that she needed to better monitor her child, according to the news release.

As a result, authorities instructed both sides to remain silent while their children played, according to police.

PEOPLE contacted the Bay Village Police Department for more information on Wednesday, July 16, but they did not respond immediately.

According to the Bay Village Foundation’s website, Play-in-Bay opened in 1995 and is billed as a place that “has brought joy to thousands of young children and relief to parents looking for a safe space for their kids to play for hours.” Swings, slides, a pole climber, and a sandbox area are some of the highlights.
