A 14-year-old boy who went missing while on a group trip in California has been found dead.
The body of Andrew Roberts of Clearlake was discovered by divers with the North Shore Dive Team around 10:40 p.m. local time on Sunday, June 8, according to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office news release.
According to authorities, the teen was “part of a group trip and told others he was headed to the pool,” but has not been heard from since.
He was last seen near Hidden Valley Lake’s Big Beach around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, according to authorities.
Authorities have not released any additional information, including the cause of his death.
The teen had recently graduated from Obsidian Middle School, according to a statement released by school officials, who spelled his surname “Robert.”
“Andrew was 14 years old and had just celebrated his promotion to high school, a milestone he reached with the support and admiration of those around him,” according to the officials.
“Andrew was well loved by both staff and peers,” he said. “His kindness, warm spirit, and distinct presence left an indelible impression on everyone who had the honor of knowing him. He brought light to our school community and will be greatly missed.”
In the aftermath of the tragedy, the middle school’s students and staff will receive support services, according to a school statement.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to Andrew’s family, friends, and all who are grieving this profound loss,” a school spokesperson said. They subsequently stated: “We hold Andrew’s memory in our hearts and will continue to honor his life in the days ahead.”
The search was assisted by a number of agencies, including the North Shore Dive Team and Lake County Search and Rescue, as well as KCORP, CAL FIRE, South Lake Fire, Hidden Valley Security, and a K9 officer.
“The Lake County Sheriff’s Office extends our heartfelt condolences to Andrew’s family, friends, and the entire community during this difficult time,” the news release said.
