The discovery of a woman’s body in Massachusetts reignited speculation that a serial killer is operating in New England.
Adriana Suazo, 21, was discovered “in a wooded area” near a home on 143 Central Avenue, Norfolk District, in Milton around 11:45 a.m. local time on Sunday, June 1, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey’s press release.
Suazo’s body had “no obvious signs of trauma.” The Chief Medical Examiner is looking into the cause of her death.
According to the Boston Globe, family members are unsure why Suazo, a Boston native, was in Milton at the time. One of her sisters allegedly stated that she last spoke with Suazo on May 29.
Suazo’s body discovery is the 13th unexplained death in remote or wooded areas in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine since March, raising concerns about a serial killer in the region, according to Fox News.
In April, six people’s remains were discovered in nearby towns in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Police identified three victims: Paige Fannon, 35, found in the Norwalk River on March 6, Denise Leary, 59, found in New Haven on March 21, and Michele Romano, 56, five days later.
Despite speculation at the time about a serial killer in the area, police denied having a single suspect in the killings.
“This investigation is in the early stages, remains active and ongoing, and there is no information at this time suggesting any connection to similar remains discoveries actively under investigation by CSP or other CT law enforcement agencies,” the Connecticut State Police told PEOPLE in a statement at the time.
The police also stated that “there is no known threat to the public at this time.”
Suazo’s sister, Mel Loves, set up a GoFundMe page, describing her as “a firecracker, full of life, laughter, and fierce love” and stating that her death was “heartbreaking.”
“Losing her so suddenly has shattered our world,” the description on the page said. “My family is completely heartbroken, trying to navigate this pain while also doing everything we can to give Adriana the proper burial she deserves—a sendoff that honors the vibrant, loving, and unforgettable person she was.”
The page has so far raised $9,550, with a goal of $11,000 to cover funeral expenses.
Authorities are asking anyone who has seen Suazo in the last week to contact the Massachusetts State Police Tip Line at the NDAO at 781-830-4990.
The investigation is ongoing.
