A SUSPECT has been arrested in connection with four bodies discovered mysteriously floating in the River Seine in Paris last week.

It comes after a horrified train passenger spotted a corpse in the water before police arrived and discovered three more bodies.

A 24-year-old Algerian man has been arrested and accused of multiple murders.

The prosecutor’s office in Créteil told Le Monde that “a man was taken into custody this morning on suspicion of multiple murders at the headquarters of the criminal brigade of the Paris judicial police.”

On August 13, the bodies were discovered in Choisy-le-Roi, France’s capital.

One of the victims died from strangulation, while another sustained “violent injuries,” the local prosecutor said on Saturday.

It is unclear how many of the four victims the accused man killed.

The first body, which was reportedly submerged for a shorter period of time than the others, was identified as a man around 40 years old who lived in the area.

His corpse was found to have “violent injuries” before another investigation into a second body began.

The suspect is now expected to be questioned during his arrest for the four dead bodies.

He was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, according to Le Parisien.

The arrest is a significant development in an otherwise enigmatic case.

While the bystander’s body was “relatively well-preserved,” the other three were in “a very advanced state of decomposition” when they were discovered, the prosecutor stated on Saturday.

One of the three unidentified bodies, like the first, exhibited signs of violence.

Last week, cops were joined by river brigade authorities who scrambled to pull the bodies from the water.

According to a source familiar with the investigation, “there are three men of African descent and a fourth of North African descent.”

The witness reportedly raised the alarm after making the gruesome discovery around 1pm last Wednesday.

After receiving reports of one body in the river, authorities made a series of chilling discoveries.

They reportedly discovered a second corpse about 50 metres from the first, followed by a third stuck in river branches and a fourth drifting with the current.

Prosecutors have stated that there is currently no evidence of a link between the victims.

They could have entered the water in different places upstream and been carried by the current to the foot of the Choisy bridge.
