A $5,000 cash bond has been set for a Cheyenne man charged with drug possession

A 32-year-old Cheyenne man is facing drug possession charges, including a felony, after police allegedly found him with cocaine and pills.

Treyon Jamar Jones was arrested at East 11th Street and Fremont Avenue at 12:26 a.m. on Monday, August 11.

Jones was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and charged with felony cocaine possession, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, a $15,000 fine, or both, as well as misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance in pill form.

Initial court appearance

On Wednesday, August 13, Jones appeared in Laramie County Circuit Court before Judge Antoinette Williams on the charges.

Williams appointed Jones as a public defender and inquired about the state’s position on bond.

“The state believes that due to the nature of these allegations that a cash bond would be appropriate,” said a state spokesperson. “The state was thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of $2,000, but the state would defer to the court.”

Bond Set at $5,000 Cash

Williams set Jones’ bond at $5,000 cash, to which he replied, “Can’t I get an OR (own recognizance) bond?” I had an OR bond in my previous case.

“You can’t, sir,” replied Williams. “I am looking into your criminal history. You have a possession of powder or crystal from 2015, felony possession in 2016, possession of powder or crystal in 2018, manufacture or deliver 2017, 2018, possession 2025, another possession in 2025, and now this case.”

Jones’ next court appearance will be a preliminary hearing on Wednesday, August 20 at 3 p.m.

Remember that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
