COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado Springs police arrested a man early Friday morning on a variety of charges, including child sex assault, after officials said a runaway child contacted her mother and claimed she was being held against her will.

According to an online police blotter post, police received a report shortly after 12:30 a.m. that a runaway child was contacting her mother via the internet, attempting to inform her of her whereabouts.

According to police, during her contact with her mother, the child described being held against her will and claiming to be accompanied by another juvenile.

According to Colorado Springs police, officers from multiple units across the city began a search for the juveniles, who were found safe at an apartment on Victoria Street near Fountain Boulevard and South Nevada Avenue.

When the juveniles were apprehended, police said the Crimes Against Children unit took over the investigation.

After an investigation, law enforcement arrested Jerome Scott, 62, on several charges related to the incident, including Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust, Unlawful Dispensing of a Controlled Substance, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, and Harbouring a Minor.

Scott was booked into El Paso County Jail. Scott’s photo was not available when this article was last updated. According to online jail records, he was still in custody on Friday afternoon.
