On Tuesday, a 27-year-old man changed his plea on several charges in Sheridan’s Fourth Judicial District Court. Ron Richter from Sheridan Media has the details.
Mervin Bishop entered a plea agreement with the State and pleaded guilty to felony theft, misdemeanor reckless driving, and misdemeanor fleeing or attempting to elude an officer.
The plea agreement calls for a 3 to 5 year prison sentence for the theft charge, suspended in exchange for three years of supervised probation, and 180 days in jail for both misdemeanor charges.
Bishop will serve three years of supervised probation after being released from the Sheridan County Detention Center.
District Court Judge Darci Phillips ordered that the Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole conduct a presentence investigation and set the sentencing date for December 2 at 9 a.m.
Bishop’s bond was revoked, and he was returned to the custody of the Sheridan County Detention Center pending sentencing.
Bishop was arrested on April 7 of this year after stealing a Kia Soul from a Wal-Mart parking lot in Sheridan and leading police on a high-speed chase down Interstate 90, where speeds exceeded 110 mph.
According to court documents, Bishop drove over 100 mph during the high-speed chase through a construction zone. Bishop was arrested shortly after his vehicle ran out of gas on the highway.
