Before killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend on the day she was due to give birth, an Ohio man allegedly asked for bereavement leave.

According to a news release released by the Colerain Police Department (CPD) on Aug. 21, Kayvon Warren, 30, was charged with two counts of murder along with a number of other charges in connection with the 2023 death of India Kinamore, 26, and her unborn child.

According to the statement, Lamar Morris Suggs, 22, and Robert Ervin, 20, were also taken into custody in relation to the incident.

On the morning of March 4, 2023, at approximately 4:39 a.m. local time, authorities responded to reports of a person being shot, according to the CPD release.

At the scene, the victim, later identified as Kinamore, was declared dead. According to the police, Kinamore was in the “late stages” of her pregnancy when she passed away, which also killed her unborn child.

On Saturday, August 30, PEOPLE requested comment from the CPD but did not immediately hear back.

According to a press release from the Hamilton County Prosecutor’s Office on August 28, prosecutor Connie Pillich stated that Warren was seeing another woman at the time of Kinamore’s death, according to the results of an investigation.

Warren was in financial trouble and did not want her to have the baby, so he planned to kill Kinamore, she added.

Pillich went on to say that Kinamore was murdered the day before her due date.

Pillich claims that Warren broke into Kinamore’s house with the intention of staging a burglary with Ervin and Suggs’ assistance. A detail that highlights the premeditated nature of the crime is that Warren “even requested bereavement leave from his job prior to the death,” according to Pillich.

The prosecutor stated in the release that “this should have been one of the happiest days of India’s life.” Rather, the child’s father plotted her murder with two other people. It’s devastating. My office will ensure that India and her child receive justice.

According to WLWT 5, Clyde Bennett, Warren’s lawyer, denied that Warren desired to end the pregnancy and stated that his client desired the child.

According to The Cincinnati Enquirer, Ervin’s lawyer, Robert Jones, stated that his client “has no ties to this case.”

On Saturday, Aug. 30, PEOPLE contacted Warren and Ervin’s lawyers, but did not hear back right away. Whether Suggs has legal counsel to comment on his behalf is unknown at this time.
