PORTLAND, Ore. — A man is dead after being shot in a Safeway parking lot, drawing a large police presence to the Roseway Neighborhood in Northeast Portland.
A fatal shooting occurred around 4 p.m. near Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Northeast 69th Avenue.
Police said they discovered one dead person outside a car. According to the Portland Police Bureau, officers detained a person inside the car.
According to police, the detained person was not injured, but he was transported to the hospital by ambulance for a medical evaluation.
I hear ‘pop, pop, pop.'” Then, half a second later, I heard someone screaming, sort of. I said, ‘Wow, this is a trip.’ And then I got out of the car, looked around, and saw someone on the ground. “Everyone is surrounding him and calling the cops,” said Michelle Etier, who witnessed the shooting.
The public streets around the store are open to through traffic. However, police have restricted access to a portion of the Safeway parking lot while the investigation continues.
