An Ohio man who barged into his ex-girlfriend’s home and shot her in front of her children has pleaded guilty to her murder.
Tony Jackson, 32, was originally charged with 11 felony counts in the February fatal shooting of Matyka Brown, 34, at her Dayton, Ohio, home.
According to Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jackson visited Brown’s home on February 10 while she was with her new boyfriend.
Jackson left, then returned to the house, broke in, and threatened Brown and her two daughters, ages nine and fourteen, with a gun.
Jackson fired one shot at Brown as the girls fled, then pulled the trigger to kill the girls’ mother as they ran to a neighbor’s house for help.
The Dayton Daily News reported that Brown’s neighbors called 911 when her daughters arrived at their home. Dayton police responded to the scene and discovered Brown dead from gunshot wounds in her bedroom.
While announcing Jackson’s indictment later that month, Heck stated that Jackson and Brown had a history of domestic violence, including an arrest in October 2024.
Jackson had been released from prison four months before the October incident, according to Heck, after serving a sentence for aggravated robbery. Jackson was convicted of strangling Brown and returned to prison that October.
Jackson was set free on January 26, about two weeks before he killed Brown.
Prior to his plea deal, Jackson faced charges including aggravated murder, murder, aggravated burglary, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and possessing weapons after committing a prior violent offense.
On Tuesday, Jackson pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated murder, and the remaining charges were dropped.
Jackson is scheduled to be sentenced on September 16.
