A Man Who Is Suspected Of Killing His Father Wants To Have His Competency Assessed At His Third Initial Appearance

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Nicholas Selig, 30, and his attorneys are currently consulting with professionals, including Dr. Scovel, to determine whether he has the mental and cognitive ability to stand trial.

Selig missed his first two initial appearances because he was uncooperative, physically resisted officers, and repeatedly interrupted the judge as he read the charges.

He faces first-degree murder charges in the shooting death of his father, 57-year-old Vernon Selig.

He faces a maximum sentence of death or life in prison.

His status hearing is set for November 18th at 9:45.
