Portland, Oregon — The man who was assaulted at a Portland MAX station on Thursday died of his injuries on Friday, Portland police said.

“The Multnomah County District Attorney’s office is actively involved in this investigation and will consider any appropriate criminal charges,” officials confirmed.

Officers responded to the Convention Center’s TriMet MAX Station just before 6 a.m. on Thursday and reported that NE Holladay Street between Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. and Second Avenue had been blocked for several hours.

When officers arrived, they discovered a man with severe, life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the hospital; his current condition is unknown.

The suspect, Jordan T. Christ, is 30 years old. He was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and charged with second-degree assault, but additional charges are expected.

“The investigation revealed that the assault was a punch to the victim’s head, with no weapon used. Police said they have no reason to believe the suspect and victim knew each other.
