(Lander, WY) – Last weekend, five homeschool students in Lander were given the opportunity to experience a graduation ceremony similar to their peers in traditional schools, thanks to the efforts of Danyel Kimsey, the Rock Church, and the LOR Foundation.
At the ceremony, Kimsey shared the emotional journey that led to the event. She explained that when her daughter, Emma, decided to pursue her education through homeschooling, Kimsey quickly realized Emma would miss out on the traditional milestone of walking across the stage in a cap and gown, and receiving a diploma.
“I thought, ‘You can create it for her,’” Kimsey recalled, holding back tears as she spoke about the memory. The idea for a homeschool graduation ceremony quickly gained support from friends and, eventually, the LOR Foundation, which provided the necessary funding to make the event a reality.
Thanks to these efforts, the five homeschooling students were able to enjoy the same rite of passage as other graduates, making their accomplishment even more special.
