A Sheridan man facing multiple charges was scheduled for a trial in November by the Fourth Judicial District Court on Tuesday.
At his arraignment, Nathan Gainforth, 25, pleaded not guilty to aggravated assault and battery and domestic battery.
District Court Judge Darci Phillips has scheduled a three-day jury trial to begin on November 17. A pre-trial conference will be held on October 23 at 11 a.m.
The Court denied the defense’s motion to reduce Gainforth’s $20,000 cash only bond to a $10,000 cash or surety bond, citing the defendant’s extensive criminal history.
According to court documents, Gainforth was arrested and charged with the crimes following an incident on May 21 at a Sheridan residence where he allegedly held a box cutter to a female individual’s throat and threatened to kill her. Gainforth is also accused of striking the victim in the face, which caused bruising.
Aggravated assault and battery is a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Misdemeanor domestic battery is punishable by up to six months in jail and a $750 fine, unless it is the second offense of a similar nature within five years, in which case it is punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
