A Sturgis man was sentenced to 35 years in prison on Friday after shooting at a police officer and a law enforcement center.

Fredrick Wilson, Jr., 20, pleaded guilty to shooting at a Meade County law officer and the Meade County Law Enforcement Center in Sturgis in 2024, according to a news release from the South Dakota Attorney General’s office.

Explosive components were found near the building’s entry doors, but they were never detonated. There were no injuries.

Wilson pleaded guilty, but mentally ill, to the charges in July.

He was sentenced to 30 years for attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and 10 years, five of which were suspended, for discharge of a firearm at an occupied structure. The sentences will be served consecutively.
