GILLETTE, Wyo. — A Wyoming man was pronounced dead in a Mississippi correctional facility on Friday. Keith Matteri was nine years into a 12-year sentence imposed by Campbell County on September 6, 2016.
Matteri was found guilty of unlawful methamphetamine manufacture or delivery, as well as aggravated assault and battery. Judge Michael Deegan handed him down his sentence.
His charges carried sentences of eight to twelve years and four to six years, respectively. He also received 836 days of time served before being sentenced. That, combined with the fact that he could serve his sentence consecutively, meant Matteri was nearing the end of his sentence when he passed away.
He was declared deceased on August 13 at the Tallahatchie County Correctional Facility in Tutwiler, Mississippi. He was born in Santa Rosa, California, on March 22, 1969, and was 56 years old when he died.
The Wyoming Department of Corrections policy requires an autopsy on inmates who die while under its supervision, but it does not release sensitive health information.
