CASPER — The Natrona County Sheriff’s Office is looking into a shooting Saturday night at an unincorporated camping area at Alcova Reservoir that sent two Colorado residents to the hospital.
According to NCSO spokesperson Kiera Hett, deputies were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. to an area between Black Beach Campground and Cottonwood Campground on Kortes Road on the reservoir’s southeast side for a report of shots fired.
When deputies arrived, they discovered a male and a female in their twenties with gunshot wounds to the legs. The shots were fired by a Casper man in his twenties, Hett confirmed.
“The situation was quickly contained and deputies determined there was no ongoing threat to the public in the area,” according to Hett.
Hett stated that there was an apparent confrontation between the Colorado man and the Casper man following a disagreement among campers about the Colorado man attempting to drive his vehicle while intoxicated.
The intoxicated Colorado man allegedly pointed a rifle at the Casper man.
“In response, the other male fired his handgun,” he said. “As a result, the male with the rifle and a female bystander both received a single gunshot wound to the leg. Both were taken to the hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.
The shooter was initially detained for questioning before being released, Hett stated. Deputies have spoken with all parties involved, and the case is still under investigation.
Hett stated that the male shooting victim was released from the hospital on Monday, but the female had yet to be discharged as of midday.
Hett stated that she did not know how many shots were fired during the incident.
