MISSOULA, Mont. — On June 14, an angler shot and killed a cow moose that he encountered in close proximity in thick willows on the North Tongue River in the Bighorn National Forest near Bear Lodge Resort.

Wyoming Fish and Game officers responded and interviewed the man, who claimed to have fired multiple shots at the moose after she became agitated and charged him.

Officers searched the area and discovered two young calves, which they believe the mother was defending.

The press release states:

Due to their inability to survive without their mother, the calves were euthanized.
