CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A Cheyenne man is facing felony theft charges after allegedly attempting to sell thousands of dollars worth of construction equipment stolen from his former employer on Facebook Marketplace.

An affidavit of probable cause details the claims against Cheyenne J. Wayman, a former Monument Homebuilders/JEI Construction and Excavation employee accused of stealing a concrete vibrator and other tools.

The investigation began on July 14 after a company employee discovered the tools for sale online, some of which were marked with the company’s initials. The employee identified Wayman as the seller and confirmed that the tools for sale were missing from the company.

The company owner told police that the $1,366.40 concrete vibrator found online went missing in January or February 2024. According to court documents, a Sawzall was worth $200, and two batteries were worth $50 each.

According to police, Wayman inquired about the missing tools, stating that he “had access to all of the tools” and did not understand.

He then told police that he didn’t know what one of the tools was, but then changed his story, saying he “didn’t have access to that type of stuff.”

While Wayman claimed to have the Sawzall, he told police that his immediate supervisor gave it to him in exchange for his own Sawzall, which had been stolen from a job site.

Wayman told police that the concrete vibrator belonged to his brother, who agreed to provide proof of purchase to the police department. However, his brother did not show up, according to the affidavit. Attempts to call him were unsuccessful.

The company’s owner confirmed to police that Wayman had access to the tools, but his supervisor did not have the authority to give them away.

Wayman is presumed innocent unless he pleads or is found guilty.
